wastedAs I said in the beginning, the conference is now history. At the end of the final session we still had a good-sized crowd of participants who did not have to catch an early plane home. As a parting gesture, I decided to bid them all good-bye with a little musical salute. For the song, I chose an instrumental of an old Beatles tune.

I gave my parting address and queued the music. As people were shaking my hand and expressing their pleasure in having attended this year’s conference, it became apparent to me that many of our guests did not recognize the tune. The words did not immediately come into their minds, as I had hoped. It was then I realized that some of them had not even been born when the song was popular.

Oh well, there is another reminder of my age. I suppose I should have thought to find a copy of the song with words. The song was "Hard Day’s Night." It goes something like this:

"It’s been a hard day’s night.
And I’ve been workin’ like a dog.
It’s been a hard day’s night.
I should be sleepin’ like a log.
But when I get home to you..."
