be on a big scale. It is a country that lends itself to bigness. It is a country that does not harmonize with things little or narrow or mean. Let us make the work of our college fit in with the scope of our country. Let our thinking be in worldwide terms.

Jon
Whitmore, President, Texas Tech University
Jon Whitmore became the 14th
president of Texas Tech University on September 1, 2003. Previously, he served
as Provost
and
Professor
of Theatre
Arts at
the University of Iowa from 1996 until 2003. That position followed six years
as Dean of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin. He
was raised in northern North Dakota where his family was engaged in cattle
ranching
and wheat farming. He later moved to central Washington where he also
lived a rural life. His extended family is still involved in farming and ranching
in North Dakota.
Dr. Whitmore earned his B.A. and M.A. in Speech from Washington
State University in 1967 and 1968, respectively. In 1974 he earned the Ph.D.
in Dramatic Arts
from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he began his research
into and wrote his dissertation on the dramatic writings of William Saroyan.
Dr. Whitmore has directed more than 60 theatrical performances, produced more
than 50
main stage and 80 second season productions, and is currently working on
his fourth book, William Saroyan's Last Words. Jon Whitmore and his
wife Jennifer are the parents of two teenage children.
Brandie Anderson, Information Security Officer
- Telecommunications, Texas Tech University
Brandie Anderson is Information Security Officer of Texas Tech. An industry
certified technologist in the extreme sense of the word, she enjoys the challenges
involved with securing the often-hostile environment of academia. Recently
impaneled to discuss identity theft issues, Brandie enjoys the opportunity
of sharing the misunderstood responsibilities we all have as computer users.
Brandie is the mother of two, Collin (13) and Cailin (3), who fight regularly
over who controls the mouse.
Arthur
Glick, Conference Director and Executive Associate to the Vice President
for Operations, Texas Tech University
Born in Knoxville TN in 1942, Art Glick has a diverse background. He graduated
from Michigan State University with a B.S. in Landscape Architecture and later
went on to get a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Texas Tech School of Law.
He first came to Texas Tech in the summer of 1970, working under the Campus Landscape
Architect, Elo J. Urbanovski, in the Office of the Landscape Architect. That
fall he began to serve as Assistant Professor in the Department of Park Administration
and Landscape Architecture, where he remained for 7 years. After his graduation
from Law School, he was a legal consultant for West Texas Title Company with
emphasis on property conveyances and land use planning.
Subsequent to the retirement of Urbanovski, he was asked to return to Texas Tech
University as the full-time Campus Landscape Architect in 1982 and served as
such for 16 years until he was conferred the title of Assistant to the Vice President
for Operations. His accomplished background has shaped him as an excellent selection
for this position, and, because of his longstanding relationship with Texas Tech,
he has made a significant contribution to the beauty and functionality of the
campus.
Art is now involved in making Texas Tech one of the top AutoCAD/GIS technological
universities in the nation.
Ricky Hall, Senior Analyst, Texas Tech University
Ricky is Senior Analyst for Information Systems of the Physical Plant. He
is a Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer and has a BS in Computer Science.
As project leader and programmer of the Texas Tech GIS web site, his technological
contribution has involved web design, ActiveX technology, VS.NET, SQLServer
2000, and other various technologies. The advancement of information technology
abroad has facilitated the GIS project to rapidly advance toward the technological
goals of the Operations Division. This type of advancement will continue into
the next year and will quickly reach beyond the initial expectations of the
Operations Divisions requests to have an interactive mapping system for Texas
Tech University.
Casey Roberts, Senior Programmer/Analyst, Texas Tech University
Casey is a Senior Programmer/Analyst for the Physical Plant. He co-developed
the OD/GIS server with Rick Hall. His major duty in GIS was System Security,
ensuring that the server was patched on a regular basis and developing the
login system from scratch.
Sam Segran, Chief
Information Officer, Texas Tech University
After spending four years in the International Airline industry, Sam Segran
joined the Information Technology industry. He has been at Texas Tech University
for the last 20 years and earned a bachelor’s degree in MIS and an MBA
in MIS. He started as a Computer Help Desk consultant in 1985 and rose steadily
through the ranks. After spending three years as Deputy CIO, he was promoted
to his current position of Chief Information Officer for TTU in April 2003.
He is active in various professional organizations and currently serves on
the Board of Directors for the Texas LoneStar Education and Research Network
(LEARN). His major focus for this coming year is the “Safe Computing
Practices” campaign at Texas Tech University. His favorite pastimes include
reading, traveling, fishing, and spending time with his wife Jamie and his “baby” T-Rex
(a 5-pound toy poodle).
Michael
D. Shonrock, Vice President of Student Affairs, Texas Tech University
Michael Shonrock is the Vice President for Student Affairs and an Associate Professor
in the College of Education at Texas Tech University. The Division of Student
Affairs includes more than 525 full-time employees in 20 different departments,
some 1,250 student employees, and an operating budget of nearly $70 million annually.
Michael is actively involved professionally with state, regional, and national
organizations including the American College Personnel Association, Big 12 Senior
Student Affairs Officers, Council of Student Services Vice Presidents, National
Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, National Association
of Student Personnel Administrators, and the Texas Association of College and
University Student Personnel Administrators.
Michael is also actively involved in civic organizations such as the Lubbock
Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Salvation Army Advisory Board, State
Employee Contribution Campaign, Success by 6, and the United Way Board of Directors.
J Stalcup, Managing Director - Telecommunications,
Texas Tech University
J Stalcup earned his BS in Computer Science after a successful management
career in military electronics manufacturing. J began his career at Texas Tech
as a systems programmer and quickly determined that networking was a field
with many challenges. J designed and developed the IP network at TTU. He has
worked steadily at developing network services to include enterprise-wide single
sign-on account management and messaging systems. He is now the Managing Director
for Telecommunications, an arm of the IT Division. J enjoys baseball, fishing,
civil war history, and spending time with his wife Kathy and two children,
RJ and Lindsay.
Roger Anderson, Director of Campus Planning Data and Systems, University
of California - San Diego
Roger Anderson is Director of Planning Data and Systems at the University
of California, San Diego, and oversees development and operation of UCSD's
FacilitiesLink system.
Charles Bowler, Facilities Planning, University of Maryland
Charles is a registered Professional Engineer with more than 30 years of planning,
design, and construction experience, including the use of CADD as a design
and production tool. He is currently responsible for the upgrading and maintaining
of the University of Maryland's infrastructure mapping and developing and maintaining
a campus-wide CADD/GIS system to incorporate a number of uses for CADD/GIS
resources
to assist
in planning, designing, and operating the university, including support of
academic programs.
Bryan
Claxton, Burns & McDonnell
Bryan Claxton has worked for Burns & McDonnell for 4½ years
in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) division. During this time, Bryan
has focused on GIS solutions for municipal infrastructure, such as water, wastewater,
and stormwater projects. An integral part of this experience involves the linkage
of GIS to engineering models to facilitate the efficient development of these
models as well as to help analyze the results from the models.
Lisa Dorsey Darnold, VP of Sales & Marketing,
Q-CAD, Inc.
Lisa holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from New Mexico State University
and has more than 15 years of experience coordinating CAD production sales
and quality control procedures. She also has an additional 7 years experience
in
data collection
and software development.
Dobie Howard, Facilities Operations, Stanford University
Dobie has been with Stanford University for 15 years and is a technical expert
in design and development of databases, CAD, & web systems utilizing Oracle,
SQL, LISP, VBA, and ColdFusion. He manages the University's Space Inventory
system that is built around the FAMIS 8i database. He also manages the floor
plan maintenance and graphical reports using ACAD-PLUS's FAMISCAD and GRS software
tools.
Kurt W. Loudon, Software Engineer & GIS Specialist, Burns & McDonnell
Kurt
W. Loudon is a 10-year technical expert in the diverse field of information
technology. Design and development of databases, GIS, & web systems are
his main areas of expertise, using cutting-edge technologies and methodologies
to deliver first-class products and services in formats such as ArcSDE, Oracle,
MS SQL server, MS Visual Basic, ColdFusion, ASP, MS Access, Satellite Forms,
Erwin, ArcIMS, and more! Kurt has a bachelors in Geography from the University
of Missouri – Columbia. He also has earned a masters in Public Management & Policy
from the top-ranked Heinz School at Carnegie Mellon University. Kurt has been
instrumental in designing, developing, and implementing the integration of
GIS, CAD, database, web, and facilities management technologies for the following
Burns & McDonnell clients: City of Westminster CO, Kansas Dept. of Health & Environment,
Department of Defense, Union County Conservation District, and more. He is
also a member of APPA.
Steve
Means, General Manager of The CAD Store and Regional Sales Director of Autodesk
Steve Means has earned the following certifications and credentials: Autodesk
Certified Instructor for Land Desktop, Map 3D, Mapguide, and a B.S. in Eastern
New Mexico University. He is currently working toward a master’s Architecture
at Texas Tech.
As the MapGuide application engineer for The CAD Store, he is working on the
total inclusion of GIS for Texas Tech University, from data gathering in Land
Desktop to posting and developing web interface in MapGuide. Some of his other
notable projects include LD training and helping implement LD prototypes for
the Navajo Nation. He is currently working with several iniversities for GIS
implementation.
Frederick Moser, Survey Sales Specialist, Western Data Systems
Fred holds a B.S. from the United States Military Academy at West
Point. He spent seven years in the U.S. Army and has more than five years of
surveying experience in Colorado (topographic, control traverse, boundary,
design, ALTA, and construction staking). He also has more than 9 years of GPS
experience (RTK and Post-Process). Fred has taken many training courses, such
as the Trimble RTS Training, Trimble Certified Trainer, and holds the Land
Surveyor-in-Training (LSIT) certification. He has been in Trimble GPS and Optical
Instrument sales for the past 9 years, both with Trimble and Western Data Systems.
He lives in Austin and enjoys leisurely outdoor activities, such as photography,
bicycling, running, and kayaking (slow, flat water kayaking!).
James Niles, University Space Manager, Virginia Commonwealth
University
Jimmy joined VCU in 1998 and has been instrumental in setting standards
for room numbering scheme, space verification standards, organizing the
archive process, developing the departmental website, and creating/designing
a state-of-the-art
intranet system that allows departmental heads and outside consultants
access to floor plans and the room inventory database (linked to a live database).
With the implementation of FMD-online (a secured intranet), the customer
response time has been reduced from an average of 4-8 hours turnaround
to
several minutes. Jimmy has also been instrumental in implementing a
GIS system for the university that allows for needs analysis to be done on
the
exterior environment. Jimmy has implemented linking all the university's
floor plans (currently more than 600 individual floor plans) to the space
inventory database to provide a graphical representation of the room space
database. He has also implemented an electronic planroom (ePlan) for all
of the as-built drawings that A/E consultants can access and download the
needed drawings from their own office.
Before joining VCU, Jimmy was co-owner of a software development company
that developed customized CAFM systems for clients (universities, Fortune
100, nonprofit) as well as providing software training to personnel around
the world
at U.S. embassies. He is an active member of Society of College and
University Planning (SCUP).
Karsten Reinhardt, NCCC Treasurer, Indiana University
Since joining Engineering Services at Indiana University in 1985, Karsten has
dealt with issues relating to the development of CAD standards, data translation,
and the steps involved in making the CAD data a valuable resource. Karsten
is currently the Treasurer of the NCCC Executive Board.
Glenn A. Seehausen, CEO of ACAD-Plus
Glenn is the founder and CEO of ACAD-Plus, Inc., a firm specializing in Facilities
Management and Document Management solutions since 1986. He has used AutoCAD
since version 2.0 in 1984 and has placed in the top five in the national Top
Gun competition sponsored by CADENCE magazine. He has trained more than 1,000
people on the use of AutoCAD. Under his direction, ACAD-Plus has developed
CAD-based software solutions and managed implementations for customers totaling
more than 300 million square feet of facilities, including Hewlett Packard,
ExxonMobil, MIT, Yale, and Stanford. For more than a decade, Glenn has designed
and implemented document management solutions in the CAD environment with a
specific focus on the facilities department. His customers use this solution
to store over millions of CAD drawings and related documents. Glenn is a returning
NCCC speaker, presenting at his first conference in 1999.
Kristina Seyer Smith, Manager of Maps and Records
- Facilities Operations, Stanford University
Kristina is the Manager of Maps and Records Department at Stanford
University, a part of Facilities Operations, Information and Technology.
She attended University of California - Davis, where she studied
Environmental Design. She has worked for Amazing Media, Tetratech, and Jacob's
Engineering, and at Stanford as a GIS/CAD Manager before taking on her current
role. She is currently pursuing a masters degree in geography
from San Jose State University. Kristina is on the Steering Committee
for
the National Collegiate CADD Conference (NCCC). Most importantly, Kristina
is mom to Emeline Alice Smith, "Emmy," who just turned 2.
Scott Shader, Director Space Planning and Management, University
of Missouri - Columbia
Scott is currently the Director of Space Planning and Management at
MU. Scott has more than 15 years of facilities/space planning and document
management experience in higher education and is responsible for the determination
of space needs at MU, including planning for hospital, athletics, etc.
Scott’s office also maintains a sophisticated online GIS mapping environment
tied to Archibus and AutoCAD tied to a document management system entitled
FindView that is fully interactive, all via the web. Scott also is the Director
of the MU Building and Infrastructure Archives, a collection of historical
and current documents pertaining to all buildings at MU dating back to the
mid 1800s. This archive collection includes as-builts, construction documents,
maps, renderings, photos, etc., on a multitude of media from onion skin and
linen cloth to 4 mil mylar. Scott has been nationally recognized for his planning
and document management efforts in higher education.
Paul Sherwood, Assistant Director of the University Engineer's Office,
Ohio State University
Paul Sherwood is the Assistant Director in the University Engineer's
Office at The Ohio State University. He has a B.S. in Architecture from The Ohio
State
University and more than 16 years of experience in design, management, and
construction. Paul has been working with CAD and mapping software in the collegiate
environment throughout his career, emphasizing data standards and data sharing
across departmental boundaries. He is the co-founder of the National Collegiate
CADD Conference, Inc.
Richard
Tribolet, CAD Operations Coordinator, Iowa State University
Rich Tribolet has been employed at Iowa State University since September 1984
when Facilities implemented its first CAD system. Rich has overseen the development
of base plans for more than 98% of the campus buildings. He has also administered
the effort to scan existing building record files, and to date more than 50,000
records have been filed electronically. Rich has attended 12 of the 15 National
Collegiate CADD Conferences.
